The only Massachusetts brand to be featured in the official backstage Grammys Gift Lounge is bringing something doubly sweet for the presenters or performers of the 65th annual awards show.

The creation of m cacao in Amesbury, the Expressio box of chocolates contains a thoughtful array of chocolates and features a video screen and speakers. People wishing to gift the box of chocolates can record video and upload to m cacoa's site to be included in the gift experience.

"The chocolates are the first food to ever be allowed in the Grammys gift lounge," said founder Michael Nichols, who speaks passionately of m cacoa's products. "That's because it's not just food, it's an experience."

Celebrities will be able to record and upload a video and share the treat with their friends and family.

The idea for the box stemmed from a desire to make a gift as personal as possible, as well as current technology that allows anyone to record video.

The Expressio box is not a gimmick, Nichols said.

"Our chocolates are world class," the founder said. "They speak for themselves," said Chef Delphin Gomes.

"We start with the best chocolate there is in the world," said Gomes, who has been making chocolate since he was 14 years old in France. "Instead of using oils and extracts, we use the real stuff. It's a different dimension."

Purchasers of the Expressio box can choose from a selection of chocolate varieties, including a chef's selection, dairy- and gluten-free truffles, garden caramels, and chili caramels.

All of the chilis used in the spicy caramel selection are grown for m cacao by a Stillman's farm in eastern Massachusetts.

The public's reception of the Expressio box has been incredible, Nichols said. In an especially notable moment, a woman bought a video box for her father's 100th birthday, gathering video messages from friends and family members around the world.

"The purpose of the box is to bring people together and allow people to express themselves to their friends, family, and loved ones," Nichols said.
